Lupus Nephritis

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, which means your own immune system mistakenly attacks your healthy tissues.  While all organs and tissues can be affected, the disease commonly affects the skin, joints, and kidneys. Since SLE is a multisystem disease we have found that the most effective way to treat patients with this condition is in a mutli-specialty clinic.  The lupus nephritis clinic is staffed by physicians who are dedicated to treating patients with lupus in addition to having a research interest in the disease.  In addition to seeing a nephrologist, Dr. Mark S. Segal, who specializes in the care of patients with lupus nephritis, to enhance your care, during the same clinic visit, you have the opportunity to be seen by a rheumatologist who also specializes in lupus.

The physicians have expertise in administering a wide range of treatments, from Imuran, Cytoxan, CellCept, Rituxan, to Benylysta, and have the knowledge to limit complications from the treatment.  In addition, we have expertise in the care of lupus patients who are pregnant.  This is one of only a few truly multispecialty clinics for Lupus Nephritis in the country and we are privileged to care for patients with Lupus Nephritis from across the state of Florida.
