Nephrocardiology (Cardiorenal Medicine) Patient Care

There is a mutual relationship between kidney and heart; they share more than blood. While many patients with kidney disease suffer from heart disease, patients with heart disease are also prone to impairment of kidney function. Patients with a variety of coexisting cardiovascular and renal diseases are evaluated and treated in this specialized clinic, often in close collaboration with the cardiology team. Cardiorenal syndrome, the concomitant presence of heart failure and kidney dysfunction, represents a complex clinical setting that is managed in this clinic. Patients with advanced heart failure therapies such as left ventricular assist device (LVAD), and those with a variety of other cardiovascular diseases such as arrhythmias, valvular heart diseases, congenital heart diseases and other cardiovascular illnesses, who also have conditions related to nephrology, are also seen in this clinic by nephrologists who are expert in the management of such patients and can provide evidence-based and up-to-date medical care.
